Check the actual destination
Use the country name and the exact plan version. Nearby countries can belong to different zones. Airports, ships and aircraft may connect to networks outside ordinary terrestrial roaming arrangements.
Understand the allowance
Confirm data fair use, calls and texts included, activation requirements and what triggers additional charges. An unlimited UK plan can have a separate overseas limit.
Prepare the device
Check the selected data line, automatic updates and backup settings. Keep maps or tickets available offline. A spending alert is useful information but is not necessarily a hard stop.
When connection fails
Check roaming is enabled on the intended line and that the account permits use in that country. Follow the provider’s network-selection guidance. Avoid repeatedly deleting profiles or buying extra allowances before the cause is understood.
Take the next step carefully
This is general information, not account-specific advice. Check the official provider before changing service. For consumer switching and contract information, consult Ofcom’s switching guidance and contract change guidance.
