Locate the change clause
For new contracts from 17 January 2025, Ofcom rules prohibit inflation-linked or percentage-based in-contract rises and require any specified rises to be clear in pounds and pence, with timing. This is not a promise that every bill stays unchanged.
Older terms need their own check
Do not apply a new-product rule retrospectively to all existing customers. Read your notice and contract; ask the provider to explain any claimed right to leave and its deadline.
Distinguish the obligations
Airtime cancellation, a device balance and a separate subscription may require different actions. Cancelling a Direct Debit can create arrears rather than close the account properly.
Keep a final record
Retain the cancellation or transfer confirmation, final bill and refund information. If the number matters, understand the number-retention route before cancelling the service.
Take the next step carefully
This is general information, not account-specific advice. Check the official provider before changing service. For consumer switching and contract information, consult Ofcom’s switching guidance and contract change guidance.
