Check three things
The exact handset variant needs eSIM hardware, the provider must support your account type, and you must be able to pass its verification. Tablet and smartwatch eligibility can differ from phone eligibility.
Prepare a safe connection
Have reliable Wi-Fi and access to the registered email or account. Keep activation codes private. Never post a QR code to a forum or send it to an unofficial adviser.
Follow the correct replacement route
A physical-to-digital replacement is different from moving between providers. Do not delete a working profile until the provider tells you to: a deleted profile may need to be issued again.
Check dual-SIM settings
Choose the intended line for calls, texts and data. Disable unintended data switching while abroad. A travel data eSIM may not include a UK number or voice service.
Take the next step carefully
This is general information, not account-specific advice. Check the official provider before changing service. For consumer switching and contract information, consult Ofcom’s switching guidance and contract change guidance.
